5 signs you’re being greenwashed
Greenwashing is when a brand says they're green, but they’re actually just talking c**p. The environmental industry is big business and not everyone’s in it for the love of the planet. So, how can you stop shady companies getting their hands on your cash?
Fluffy language - Watch out for words that sound cool like "eco-friendly" and “sustainable” but offer no explanation. If they don’t back it up, you’re probably being greenwashed.
False labels - Labels can be bought by corporations or even be made up by the brand themselves! Yeah, pretty low right? Double check the labels to stop this corporate BS.
It’s ‘natural’ - Arsenic, formaldehyde and uranium are also ‘natural’. Fancy adding those to your baby’s nappy?
Baby wipes that are compostable, yay! But then they add toxic lotion to the mix and suddenly your tomatoes look like carrots and they’re glowing purple. Still fancy that salad?
Something claims to be CFC free? Wow, that’s awesome… Except CFC’s have been banned for over 30 years. Yeah, we’re not impressed either.
These companies use some pretty underhand tactics to sell you their ‘green’ products. So, what can you do to make sure you don’t fall victim?
The easiest way to ensure you don’t get conned is to check the label certifications. Labels should always be independently certified. Some of the ones we trust are ECO CERT, FSC and V-Label. Check out our Sustainability page to learn more!
