Naty wet wipes - Can I compost them at home?

Wet Wipes are a convenient lifesaver. Whether you’re changing a nappy on-the-go or wiping sticky hands in the park, they’re your everyday hero. That said, you’ve probably found yourself over the bin wondering: Can I compost this? What’s the right thing to do? We hear you. That’s why we make wet wipes that are biobased, plastic-free, and certified to break down naturally, not just feel-good, but backed by science. And just as importantly, we want to help you understand how to dispose of them responsibly.

What Makes Naty Wet Wipes Different?

Not all wet wipes are created with certified skin-safety but Naty’s wet wipes are. Here’s a breakdown on our Compostable Wipes.

  • 100% biobased (made from renewable plant materials)
  • Plastic-free (many “eco” wipes still contain plastic while ours don’t)
  • Certified skin-safe (the lotion is certified by Cosmos Natural because baby’s skin deserves the best)
  • Dermatologically tested on sensitive skin
  • Certified compostable, according to both home and industrial standards

To clarify, this means safe for baby and they break down much faster than conventional wet wipes and don’t leave microplastics behind.

Can I Compost Them at Home?

    The answer is that, it depends. While our wet wipes are certified compostable and they meet standards for both industrial composting and home compost, it all depends on what you use them for. If the substance on the wipes are non natural, it will alter the compostability process.

    Why is that? This is because home compost bins often don’t get hot enough to fully break down wipes, especially after they’ve been used to clean up nappy messes. And hygiene matters. Industrial composting is a controlled environment that breaks down materials faster and safely, even if soiled.

How Should I Dispose of Them?

Here's our recommendation:

  • Used wet wipes → home or industrial composting.
  • Unused or lightly used wipes (used on hands/face or if expired/dropped) → check your local industrial composting or biowaste facilities (where accepted).
  • If no industrial composting is available → general waste bin.

Because our wet wipes are plant-based and break down naturally, they’re still a better choice for the environment than plastic-containing wipes.

Flushable wipes: safe to flush (when used right)

Our Flushable Wipes works a little different than our Compostable Wipes, since they are certified & tested to break down in the sewage and biodegrade in water. Here’s a breakdown:

  • Made from 100% cellulose fibers (no hidden plastic)
  • OK biodegradable WATER certified by TÜV Austria
  • Tested to the INDA/EDANA GD4 flushability standard

They’re designed to break down in modern wastewater treatment as long as you:

  • Flush one wipe at a time
  • Use modern toilets connected to municipal systems
  • Avoid flushing in septic tanks or old/narrow pipes
